Congregation Gates of Heaven is committed to building a better community.

We join in partnership with other organizations and houses of worship of all faiths in our efforts for Tikkun Olam, repairing the world.

One of the most important catalysts in this regard is “Schenectady Clergy Against Hate”, which Rabbi Matt was pivotal in creating and guiding.

“Schenectady Clergy Against Hate” is a non-partisan, multi-faith, and interfaith coalition working to promote harmony, respect, and fellowship in the greater Schenectady area.

Our congregation has been very proud to be at the center of this group’s work. Together, through a sharing of our unique and common religious teachings, we seek to foster understanding of one another.

We as a community, under our Rabbi’s commitment and his partnership with other clergy, are compelled to speak out against hatred, bigotry, and discrimination on the basis of appearance, race, ethnicity, country of origin, immigration status, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, ability status, or any other identity used to divide us.

Social advocacy is deeply rooted in Judaism and we are proud of our commitment to advance social causes in partnership through study, listening, activism, and acts of solidarity.
