Once again we will prepare and serve a meal to the needy served by the Bethesda House. We are expecting to serve 80 people. Please contact Sue at 374-8173 or email@example.com if you can make a pot of stew or provide dessert or bread.
- We need 12 families to make a pot of stew and bring it with them on Mitzvah Day. The Bethesda House team will bring the stew, bread, and dessert to the shelter that afternoon. We need everyone to use the same recipe (see below) as all the stew will be combined to be warmed and served. Please label your stew pot if you want it returned.
- We need donations of desserts and bread or monetary donations to purchase these items
QUICK AND SIMPLE STEW
- 4 lg. Carrots
- 4-5 lg. Potatoes
- 3 med. Onions
- 1.5-2 lbs. Stew Meat
- 1 c. Flour
- 1/2 c. Catsup
- 2 Bay Leaves
- 2 c. Beef Broth
- Salt/Pepper to taste (add last)
- Lg Zip Lock Bag
- Croc Pot or Dutch Oven
Wash and scrub carrots and potatoes and dice into 3/4 inch chunks. Place in crock pot or dutch oven. Peel onion, dice and add to pot. Cut meat into 3/4 inch chunks, add to zip lock bag plus 1 cup flour. Brown meat in oil in separate pan. May need to do this in batches so it has room to brown. Add meat to crock pot or dutch oven.
For Crock Pot: Add beef broth, bay leaves, catsup and salt. Cook for 8 to 10 hours on low, 4 to 5 hours on high.
For Dutch Oven: Add beef broth and water just to cover the contents of pot. Add bay leaves, catsup, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then simmer over low heat for 2 to 3 hours until meat is tender.
