MLK Community Soup Shabbat

with guest speaker Professor Sarah Rogerson

Our annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Shabbat will be held on Friday, January 24, 2020. Shabbat Service will be held at 5:00 p.m., followed by Soup Shabbat Dinner at 6:00 p.m. and at 7:00 p.m. Professor Sarah Rogerson, Director of the Immigration Law Clinic at Albany Law School will be our guest speaker.

We’ll serve 16 different hearty soups (and you can try them all!) along with crusty bread and of course, dessert. We ask for a donation for dinner that will go to benefit the Immigration Law Clinic at Albany Law School. The suggested donation is what you would pay if you went out for dinner. Please also bring school supplies donation to be distributed to area schools in need.

Professor Rogerson Directs the Immigration Law Clinic, an experiential course through which students represent immigrant victims of crime including child abuse and neglect, domestic violence and sexual assault. Her students also regularly participate in related legislative advocacy and community outreach initiatives. Professor Rogerson worked as a public interest attorney in Newark, New Jersey and has represented immigrant adults and children in cases involving torture, domestic violence, and human trafficking at a human rights non-profit in Dallas, Texas. Her scholarship is focused on the intersections between domestic violence, family law, race, gender, international law, and immigration law and policy.

Please RSVP for the dinner by January 17. You may make your reservation and donation on our website or contact Kathy at or 518-374-8173.
